Western Sleep and Breathing Clinic was established in 2009 and specialises in a broad range of respiratory and sleep disorders. Our philosophy is to provide a premier service enabling optimal patient outcomes and this is achieved by attracting the best physicians and scientists. We pride ourselves on our patient centered approach and high standards for quality control.

Our current locations include Essendon, Hoppers Crossing, St Albans and Williamstown. Our physicians have senior public hospital appointments and can arrange urgent in patient management through both the public and private systems at short notice.

Our Services Include:

Sleep Consultations

We take a comprehensive approach in the assessment for sleep disorders with our physicians having expertise in sleep conditions including sleep apnoea, insomnia, parasomnia, evaluation of hypersomnia, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, sleep disturbance in menopause and circadian rhythm abnormalities.

Respiratory Consultations

Assessment of all respiratory conditions and undifferentiated symptoms (i.e. shortness of breath and cough). Our physicians have particular interests in respiratory physiology, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, bronchiectasis, pulmonary arterial hypertension, assessment of lung nodules and pulmonary malignancies.

Sleep Diagnostics

External referral for overnight oximetry a type 4 sleep study to evaluate for severe obstructive sleep apnoea. Patients complete an extensive questionnaire prior to this study. We ensure that current guidelines for the assessment of sleep conditions are adhered to (see FAQ related to sleep studies and AASM guidelines for portable sleep studies). Our physicians can provide rapid assessment and referral for an appropriate type of sleep study in both the public (Royal Melbourne Hospital and Western Hospital) and private (Western Private Hospital and Epworth Hospital) systems.

Respiratory Diagnostics

Comprehensive pulmonary function testing including spirometry, gas transfer, lung volumes, bronchoprovocation testing and 6 minute walk tests. Our respiratory laboratory maintains the highest standards to provide an accurate assessment of lung function. We also have close relationships with tertiary respiratory laboratories and can organise arterial blood gas measurements, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (VO2 max test) and high altitude simulation tests (HAST).
